The Computerised Flight Report and Logbook Program
Preparing for the Initial Upgrade of Pocket RosterLog v2
The following describes how to set up your PDA for Pocket RosterLog v2 having
been running v1.
Operating System History.
Pocket RosterLog (PRL) v1 was written in the language of the first generation of PDAs, PocketPC 2000 and PocketPC 2002. When PocketPC 2003 appeared, users needed to install a set of files (the VB Runtime files) that would enable PPC2003 devices to run programs written for PPC2000. Recently, Windows Mobile 5 has been released, and Microsoft said that it would not be backward-compatible with programs written for PPC2000. (However, several devices have been running PRL v1 just fine!)
Pocket RosterLog v2 is a completely new program, written for PPC2002, 2003SE and WM5 devices. Unless your PDA is running other programs written for PPC2000 or PPC2002, you can remove the VB Runtime files.
Deleteing Pocket RosterLog v1 and redundant files.
PRL v1 had a messy install involving unzipping files that has lead in many cases to several files (and folders!) that are not used and just taking up space. Upgrading to v2 is a good excuse to remove all the old junk.
On the PC, all the RosterLog files and folders should be in only two places.
The main RosterLog folder (containing Airports, Aircraft, Logbook and Timetable) should be in the shared documents folder, often called something like Pocket_PC My Documents.
As the PC's RosterLog program is unreadable for PDAs, there's no point having it in the shared documents folder, taking up space on the PDA. So that (and the file required for using MS Outlook, Interop.Outlook.dll) can be moved out, I suggest into your PC's My Documents folder.
Your PC file structure should look like this:
In the RosterLog folder, only the four folders shown above and the A320 icon are needed. You can delete any file called Pocket RosterLog-anything, delete any ZIP, WinRAR or CAB files, or any file called RosterLog Update 05Jun04 (date may vary).
On the PDA, again you can delete any file called Pocket RosterLog-anything, and any folder you may have created for RosterLog downloads.
On the PDA, tap Start, Settings, System tab, Remove Programs. From the list of installed programs, Remove any RosterLog Pocket RosterLog programs, and the VB Runtime files (if you don't have any other programs using PPC2002 code).
Perform a soft reset of your PDA, and marvel at how much memory you've recovered.
Continue with the Pocket RosterLog v2 Installation.
